Lyme Disease and Related Infections

Do you treat Chronic Lyme Disease?

As of 2020, I have worked with approximately seven hundred patients with chronic symptoms related to Borrelia burgdorferi – the bacteria that causes Lyme Disease – or similar infectious microbes (other bacteria, parasites or viruses, known as coinfections).

Can you test me for Borrelia burgorferi infection or coinfections?

Yes. Your current symptoms and your history of illness are the most important information to help determine whether a chronic infection is causing your symptoms. However, we often use laboratory testing to help determine which microorganisms we are dealing with. We primarily use ELIspot testing via Armin Labs in Germany, although we also use IgeneX (California) and DNA Connexions (Colorado) if needed.

If I have one (or more) of these chronic infections, how will you treat me?

Treating these infections can be straightforward, although oftentimes it is complicated. Please read my write up on Complex Chronic Illness (HYPERLINK) for more information on this. In my practice, I draw from a wide array of tools to match the appropriate treatments with each patient case. Treating these infections is highly individualized; there is no “one size fits all” protocol. The therapies I commonly draw from include: anti-infectious herbal therapy, immunotherapy, anti-infectious injection therapies, anti-infectious IV therapies, and other treatments and supplements to help repair the damage that has been done by these infections.

Can I actually get better from these infections? Will it take years?

I define “getting better” as returning to 80-100% of your pre-infection state of health. Using that definition, I have witnessed many patients experience that level of symptom reduction. Some cases are very, very challenging and have taken years to improve to that extent (please see my write-up on Complex Chronic Illness (HYPERLINK)). However, a majority of cases respond much more quickly, presuming that we’re able to work with every appropriate treatment. Every case is unique, of course, and I cannot guarantee treatment success for any patient.

I would like to book a visit with you. What should I do next?

If you would like to be assessed by me, please call or email my front desk via the button below. Please send us copies of any relevant laboratory testing or imaging test reports you’ve had done already. Also, when you book, please let my front desk know that you think you might be dealing with a chronic infection. This will allow them to book you for the appropriate visit length so we can ensure we’ll have enough time to discuss your case thoroughly. If you have any questions, please feel free to let us know.
